Berenburg by Sonnema
The best-known Frisian berenburg, first made in Dokkum in 1860
Historical Context
Fedde Sonnema began distilling in Dokkum in 1860 and the house became the standard-bearer for berenburg beyond Friesland. The style itself is older, taking its name from the Amsterdam spice merchant Hendrik Beerenburg
What Does Sonnema Berenburg Taste Like?
Softer and rounder than the older Frisian style, with juniper and gentian carried on a smooth grain spirit. Bay and mild spice sit behind a gentle, dry-leaning bitterness.
