- 1 1/2 ozCoffee LiqueurNearly as much again as the whiskey
- 1/2 ozMaple SyrupOn top of two ingredients that are sweet already
Instructions
- Add 2 oz cinnamon whiskey, 1 1/2 oz coffee liqueur, 1/2 oz maple syrup, 3 dashes Strongwater aromatic bitters and 3 dashes black walnut bitters to a mixing glass
- Fill with ice and stir until cold
- Strain over one large block in a rocks glass
One block; cubes dilute a heavy drink too fast
- Express an orange peel over the surface, drop it in and add a cherry
Technique Notes
One large block rather than cubes. Maple syrup and coffee liqueur together make this a heavy drink, and a block gives it the slowest dilution available, so the last mouthful is close to the first rather than watered down past recognition.
Why the Tesla Coil Works
Cinnamon, coffee and maple all sit in the same toasted register, so nothing here is contrasting with anything. The black walnut is what stops it becoming a dessert: it is tannic and dry where everything else is round.
