  • 2 dashesXocolatl Mole Bitters
    Rich chocolate spice
    Substitute: Fee Brothers Chocolate
  • 1 dashAngostura Orange Bitters
    Subtle citrus lift
    Substitute: Regans' Orange No. 6
  • 1 1/2 ozReposado Tequila
    Quality reposado
    Substitute: Blanco acceptable
  • 1/2 ozMezcal
    Espadín mezcal
    Substitute: Del Maguey preferred
  • 1/4 ozAgave Syrup
    Light agave syrup
    Substitute: Simple syrup

Instructions

  1. Add 1 1/2 oz reposado tequila and 1/2 oz mezcal to mixing glass
  2. Add 1/4 oz agave syrup, 2 dashes mole bitters, and 1 dash orange bitters
  3. Fill with ice and stir until well chilled
  4. Strain over large ice cube in old fashioned glass
  5. Express orange peel oils and garnish

Technique Notes

Stir until properly cold. Mezcal smoke is aggressive when warm and only settles into the agave once the drink is genuinely chilled.
