Historical Context
Mizuho Shuzo has distilled awamori in Shuri, Naha, since 1848, and according to the producer it is the oldest distillery still working in Shuri. It developed its bitters with bartenders, drawing on the methods behind its awamori and its craft gin and on Okinawa's citrus, shikuwasa among them, and describes the result as the first bitters made in Okinawa. CRAFT BITTERS CITRUS was the first release, and the producer reports a gold medal for it in the liqueur class of the 2021 IWSC.
What Does Mizuho Shuzo Craft Bitters Citrus Taste Like?
Sharp green citrus on the nose, in the tart shikuwasa register, with a light herbal bitterness underneath. Made to be added a drop at a time, it brightens a drink rather than spicing it.
