Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ozTX Scheepsbitter
The Texel herbal bitter, anise and sea fennel
    Substitute: Another Dutch herbal bitter
  • 4 1/2 ozCola
The distillery recommends a high-quality cola like Fentimans

Instructions

  1. Fill a tall glass with ice
  2. Add 1 1/2 oz TX Scheepsbitter
  3. Top with 4 1/2 oz cola
  4. Garnish with an orange slice

Technique Notes

Pour one part bitter to three parts good cola, and one to four for a lighter glass. Any simple citrus works as the garnish: orange, lime or lemon.

Why the Scheepsbitter and Cola Works

Cola is vanilla, caramel and citrus oil, and the Scheepsbitter brings anise and sea fennel to it. The bitter dries the cola's sweetness, and the orange picks up the citrus already in both.
