Technique Notes
Equal parts means the pour has to be accurate. A quarter-ounce of drift in either direction and one of the four takes over completely.
Why the Last Word Works
Equal parts of three modifiers (Chartreuse's herbal complexity, maraschino's stone-fruit, lime's acid) and a base spirit means no ingredient can hide. Gin is the connector because its botanicals overlap with Chartreuse's herbs. Lime's acid keeps the two sweet liqueurs from collapsing into syrup.
